I was raised in a "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" ethos and used that term for many, many years. I think it was Father Greg Boyle's words that finally got through to me, that we must stand in awe of how much others have to carry, rather than judge how they carry it. As a privileged, white woman, it is scary to me just how long it took me to understand that -- and of course, it's because I didn't want to see it. I am so grateful to you, Parker, and to so many authors and activists who are strong and call evil out where they see it, but who also model grace and kindness to those of us for whom it took a long time to finally see. I try as hard as I can to model that back to others now.

I'm ever so grateful for you, Parker, as you continue to lift up humanity to a higher plane. Who would want to trade places with the bazillion-aires whose misery gets poured out on all who are not in their circle of robber barons? I'm happy to be kicking around with the likes of you and others who value who and what matters.
