Recently, you mentioned a quote by Wendell Berry about the most important things in life being warm conversations around a table with friends and family, or something like that. If you can point me in the right direction that would be grateful!
The man who drew the cartoon in your newsletter, Herblock, deserves to be named here, for those who don't know. The chief editorial cartoonist for The Washington Post, from 1946 until his death 55 years later, at age 96, his cartoons attacked public figures in power, mostly Republicans, who abused their positions. He was a life long advocate for environmental conservation, civil rights, equality and justice, all the values we've seen trampled. Can you imagine The Washington Post having a Herblock today?
St Paul had to ask the arrogant and self serving Corinthians “What do you have that you were not given?” (1Cor 4:7). It’s a good question that prompts a “thank you” to all honest seekers of truth.
Thank you, Parker, for this article. I am grateful to be reminded that gratitude can be a way of life, a lens through which we can watch Creation. Love, Maria
Nadia Bolz-Weber's Lenten challenge/offering is "#40daysofgoodshit": letting the community know about something--event, image, exchange, view, whatever --that caught your eye, ear, spirit. Has been a great anchor in these times. Thank you for your wisdom, honesty and Insight.
FYI A reminder, but one usually forgotten: From AI: "the phrase "pick yourself up by your own bootstraps" was originally a satirical, ironic, and mocking expression. Originating in the 19th century, it was meant to describe a physically impossible task used to mock absurd claims or someone attempting the impossible."
Brother David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk, focuses on gratefulness as the root of joy and a path to peace. His quotes emphasize living in the moment, viewing life as a gift, and finding sacredness in daily life. Key themes include gratitude, awareness, and interconnectedness. His teachings on grateful living can be found on gratefulness.org. His Youtube short video, titled A Good Day has been viewed many millions of times. As one Christian mystic has said, "If the only prayer you ever said in your life was 'thank you', that would be sufficient".
Br. David Steindl-Rast will turn 100 this year, and he (or his Grateful Living organization) has created a 100 day gratitude "challenge" that suggests you do a 5 minute grateful meditation each morning. It is to begin in early April.
Thank you Parker.
Your words communicate what my Soul knows as Truth. Thank you for expressing so truthfully what our hearts feel.
Thank you. I am so grateful for your teachings.

I am grateful for people in my neighborhood who continue " to make a way out of no way" and still act with hope and joy.
So grateful for your insights!
Thank you Parker. I am grateful for so much in my life. You continue to remind and inspire us. Thank you.

I know, Kirke. I already signed up for this challenge. Looking forward to it.
Grateful for you.
